Fasting and prayer devotional

February 19,2024:
Today i was meditating on Matthew 19:21. In the story the man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit the kingdom of heaven. Jesus reiterates all the commandment to the man. The man tell Jesus he has kept all the commandments since his youth. The man must have felt very confident that Jesus would be impressed by him. But Jesus throws a curve and says:
“Jesus said to him, “If you really want to be perfect, go immediately and sell everything you own. Give all your money to the poor and your treasure will be transferred into heaven. Then come back and follow me for the rest of your life.” Matthew 19:21 TPT
The scripture says that he went away sad because he had allot of worldly possessions. Jesus was trying to tell people that it is not by works that we get to heaven, but by letting everything go for the Kingdom, or at least be willing not to hold on to this world.
So many time we hold onto the things of this world to fulfill or complete us. The word Jesus uses when he say it you really want to be perfect is “ouranos” which literal translates complete. Jesus is telling us to be willing to let go of the world and follow him. Following Jesus is the real path to completeness and wholeness!
PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Heavenly Father! Help me to let go of the thing of this world and cling to you. I want to be complete I’m your presence, following wholly after you! In Jesus Holy name! Amen!
DAILY SCRIPTURES:
“Jesus said to him, “If you really want to be perfect, go immediately and sell everything you own. Give all your money to the poor and your treasure will be transferred into heaven. Then come back and follow me for the rest of your life.””
Matthew 19:21 TPT
““Don’t keep hoarding for yourselves earthly treasures that can be stolen by thieves. Material wealth eventually rusts, decays, and loses its value. Instead, stockpile heavenly treasures for yourselves that cannot be stolen and will never rust, decay, or lose their value.”
Matthew 6:19-20 TPT
